It’s Nap Time!

Posted November 4th, 2011 by Anna | 1 Comment »

The kittens went all out for Halloween and now their tired. You should stop by Kitty Harbor this Saturday from 12pm – 6pm or Sunday from 2pm – 6pm and find a snuggly kitten to take a nap with!

Kitten naps are best taken in large groups.

The larger the napping group the better!

Miss Eliza Pettigrew watches over all the kittens while they sleep.

Someone woke Timmie up – that was rude!

Joey is too handsome to nap – it might mess up his kitten hair.

Ok maybe just a quick nap.

Sansa naps one hour for each toe that she has – that means pretty much all day!

Shhhhh….Rounder is tired.

Who wouldn’t want to take a nap on a pink squishy bed?

Miguel has bed head.

Algonquin can’t find a bed big enough for his long legs.

Uh oh. Bert is planning to wake people up by jumping on them.

Gonkers would prefer a home with a king size bed. He likes to spread out.

Beasley would rather play with kitten toys than nap.

Herman lost the tip of his tail, but that doesn’t mean he still can’t snuggle!

Gilbert is too wired on Halloween candy to nap.

Ocelot would make a great kitten pillow. He has a big belly and a soft Maine Coon coat.

Berta is too busy being cute to get an shut eye.

These sun rays are keep Callie awake!

Ask Chabbles: What do you think of cat halloween costumes?

Posted October 31st, 2011 by Anna | 0 Comments »

Chabbles: I was thinking about dressing up as a vampire this year for Halloween, but Gourd told me that cat halloween costumes are nerdy. What do you think? Love, Carrot

Carrot: I think you would make an excellent vampire! Halloween isn’t for every cat, but when you have a smile like that, you can’t go wrong. Yours truly, Chabbles

Carrot says, “Happy Halloween!”

Ask Chabbles: Why do kittens need a friend?

Posted October 29th, 2011 by Anna | 0 Comments »

Chabbles: I hear at Kitty Harbor that kittens need to be adopted with another cat or kitten, unless you already have a kitty at home. Why is that? Just curious, The Two Headed Kitten Monster

Two Headed Kitten Monster: Kittens are very social animals. They love to play and the need constant stimulation. If they are left alone, they sometimes entertain themselves by chewing on plants, climbing drapes, climbing furniture, unrolling toilet paper, exploring electrical cords and sockets, etc. Your kitten will enjoy playing with you, but really needs another cat to keep them company – especially at night when you are trying to sleep. If you want your kitten to grow up into a cuddly, well-adjusted, happy cat – do you and your kitten a favor and make sure they have another cat friend. For lots more details, read the article on our Kitty Q&A page! Yours truly, Chabbles

The Two Headed Kitten Monster wants all kittens to have kitten best friends.

It’s the Scariest Night of the Year!

Posted October 29th, 2011 by Anna | 0 Comments »

It’s Halloween weekend and the kitties are ready! They’ve got their costumes and now all they need is candy – or at least some kitten toys. Make your Halloween night a little less scary by finding a kitten companion to hug. And just a reminder that Kitty Harbor is only open on Saturday this weekend!

Colin is resting up so he can stay up late watching monster movies.

Conrad just finished re-reading the whole Twilight series. He’s ready.

Marlin is getting his photo taken so he can look for ghosts in the background.

Dresden wants to watch the whole season of True Blood this weekend.

Lester hopes his extra fingers will help him fight off any zombies that attack this weekend.

Eddie is a scardey cat. He needs a hug.

Geraldine is worried – the other kittens have convinced her that ghosts are real.

Miss Liza Kittenbottom isn’t worried. She’ll distract any ghosts with her cuteness.

Miss Sandi Kittenbottom is planning to hide behind her sister.

Gus is planning to watch Ghostbusters on repeat all weekend. He likes the big marshmellow man.

Lester is ready. For the candy.

Thomas says, “Have a safe and happy Halloween!”

Ask Chabbles: What’s a Polydactal?

Posted October 27th, 2011 by Anna | 0 Comments »

Chabbles: The other kittens at the shelter have been picking on me because I have a couple extra toes. They keep calling me something that sounds like a dinosaur. What’s the deal? Please Help, Sansa

Sansa: A polydactal cat is a cat that has more than the usual number of toes. It’s normally not an issue, and in fact sometimes makes them more able to perform fun tricks like opening latches or catching objects. Because of the position of the extra toes, polydactal cats may not be able to file down their nails on scratching posts so your mom may need to clip them. Luckily clipping the nails are easy and nail clippers are cheap. You can even buy a pair at Kitty Harbor! I think the extra toes are pretty cute – those other kittens are just jealous! Yours truly, Chabbles

Sansa is glad to know that having too many toes is in style this season.

Ask Chabbles: What’s for dinner?

Posted October 25th, 2011 by Anna | 2 Comments »

Chabbles: My new mom wants to make sure I eat a healthy dinner, so that I grow up to be a big, strong kitty with a nice, soft coat. What should she feed me? Love, Miss Match

Miss Match: Picking the right cat food is one of the most important decisions your mom can make. When selecting a high quality cat food, check the ingredient list on food bags to make sure a named meat source is the first ingredient. She should always avoid foods with corn or corn gluten, animal by-products, wheat, soy, brewers rice, and ethoxyquin. What you want to see in the ingredient list are named fish and meats, high quality grains like brown rice, barley, oatmeal, and plenty of vegetables. Those things are not only good for you – but they are tasty, too! A grain free diet is also a great idea, yet can be pricey. Yours truly, Chabbles

Miss Match can’t wait for a delicious dinner!

Now That’s a Work of Art!

Mimi – one of the followers on our Facebook page – shared this wonderful painting she did of Meggy. There’s a cute cameo of the two headed kitten monster in the background. She’s donating half the proceeds of this painting to Kitty Harbor, so check out all of her beautiful work!

Thanks to Mimi for creating such a lovely image of a Kitty Harbor kitty!

Ask Chabbles: What’s Up?

Posted October 23rd, 2011 by Anna | 2 Comments »

Chabbles: Who is Chabbles and what’s this new feature on the Kitty Harbor Website? Sincerely, Noodles

Noodles: My name is Chabbles and I’m a big, soft tabby cat who lives with the Kitty Harbor web team. You can see my picture in the banner at the top of the page! Formerly a shelter cat myself, I am now an advocate for kitty happiness and well-being. Ask Chabbles is a new featured advice column, where I can give advice on pressing kitten topics. When it rains, it pours…KITTENS!

Posted October 22nd, 2011 by Anna | 4 Comments »

The gloomy Seattle fall has started, but it’s never gloomy when you have a kitty in your life. Stop into Kitty Harbor this Saturday from 12pm – 6pm or Sunday from 2pm – 6pm and find a pal to warm your heart.

Eva’s setting the bar for cuteness this week, and it’s pretty high!

It took Evan all morning to get his hair just right.

Humphrey is taking up more than his fair share of time in the kitten tube.

Who woke up Jasper? He was napping!

Pattie thinks she could be your new best friend.

Solomon had to wait a really long time for his turn in the tube.

It’s Torpedo’s turn in the kitten tube!

Mary is recovering from a gunshot wound. No we aren’t kidding :(

This kitten tube is really popular.

Raisin hopes his new home has a fireplace so he can warm his kitten fur.

Best friends already!

Zola hopes her new home has a laser pointer, and a feather toy, and a stuffed mouse, and a scratch post…We had to cut her off there.

Oh there’s Sansa – looking pretty as always.

Yoda is very serious about finding a loving home.

Apparently, this is Yoda’s best smile.

Miss Eliza Pettigrew is one of the most beautiful cats at the shelter.

We added an “E” to Toeny’s name, when we saw her feet.

Conrad is always ready for a close-up.

Oh, hey – a toy!

Tippers tried to hold still for the photo, but he really wanted to be playing.

Sebastian says “Seriously, come on down to Kitty Harbor.”

Meggy got a home last week. We hope she’s doing great!
